On the banks of the Willamette River in Southeast Portland’s Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood, Oaks Amusement Park is a top destination for carnival thrills and family fun. This popular attraction comprises 44 tree-studded acres (17.8 ha) of rides (including classics like bumper cars, a Ferris wheel and a roller coaster), carnival and arcade games, miniature golf, a roller skating rink, a carousel and a mini-train.
Rides for All Ages
Although Oaks Park is perhaps more reminiscent of a quaint, small-town state fair than a Six Flags mega theme park, for adrenaline seekers, it does not disappoint. The park’s hair-raising rides include Zero Gravity, a carnival classic that spins fast enough to glue passengers to the wall while twirling high above the ground; the Adrenaline Peak roller coaster, which includes a 72-foot (22-m) drop and three inversions; and AtmosFEAR, a ride that swings and twirls passengers 360 degrees. See photos of all the rides and watch preview videos on Oaks Park’s website.
If you’re feeling the need for speed, jump on the go karts and put your driving skills to the test, or check out the Cosmic Crash ride for a space-exploring spin on the classic bumper car experience.
There’s plenty of fun to be had at a slower pace, too. Little ones can experience their own thrills with rides like the Zoom Coaster, Toon Cars and the nostalgic Big Pink Slide. Taller visitors who aren’t looking for high speeds or death-defying drops will enjoy the vintage carousel — which dates back to the early 1900s and features hand-carved horses — along with stunning views of the Willamette River and downtown Portland from the top of the Ferris wheel.

Other Attractions & Eats
Oaks Park offers carnival games like ring toss, skee ball, a shooting gallery and more. All midway games are cash only, so stock your wallet accordingly. Find more games in the roller rink arcade — you don’t have to pay for a skating session to play, and many games are play-till-you-win, so you’re sure to get your money’s worth.
Golfers of all ages can play a round at Chipper’s Woods Miniature Golf Course. Even if you’re racking up the bogies, you’ll still enjoy the shady oak grove setting and views of the river (and the West Hills beyond).
When it comes to eats, the reasonably priced concessions include summer standbys like pizza, hamburgers, ice cream and cotton candy. You can also bring your own vittles and enjoy a riverfront picnic among the park’s ample picnic tables and shaded grassy areas overlooking the Willamette River.
